Mixing, at least for me, is that weird liminal space between the composing, recording, & producing phase of a project and actually getting the song mastered & released.
It’s a real mental shift. I had to wait a while after I was done producing the record before I could even think about mixing it. Fortunately there are a lot of technical tasks that have to be done first. That process kind of takes you out of the creative space and creates some distance.
The comparison to editing is apt. And you’re so right that you have to become the audience to make it ready for one.
